Bodywork for Surgical Births

As some of you know, surgical births (or Cesareans) are fairly commonplace nowadays. As such, it is crucial to discuss the implications of this style of birthing, and how we can minimize the trauma that surgical processes can inflict on our bodies. Prenatal bodywork will prepare the body for surgery by breaking up restrictions and adhesions from past scar tissue or injuries, and prepare the nervous system for the invasive procedure that is surgery by reducing sympathetic response. In addition, postpartum bodywork will accelerate the natural healing process, improve lactation and latch response between mother and baby, as well as reduce need for pain medication, among other benefits. If you know that you will be having a surgical birth, or have had one that still needs healing, consider scheduling some bodywork for yourself.
